The Cisco A907-FAN-E is a fan tray with filter slot engineered for the Cisco Network Convergence System (NCS) 4216 chassis, part of the NCS 4200 Series designed for circuit-switched network migration and metro aggregation applications. This carrier-class component delivers best-in-class Circuit Emulation (CEM), Optical Transport Network (OTN), and Carrier Ethernet capabilities, supporting the transition from legacy SONET/SDH networks to future-proof packet-based architectures using MPLS/FlexLSP and Segment Routing.
Key Features and Benefits
- Industry-leading carrier-class CEM density with high-density TDM, SONET/SDH, OTN, and Carrier Ethernet interfaces (FE, GE, 10GE, 40GE, 100GE) for any-to-any connectivity over a protected packet-based network.
- Fully distributed packet capabilities including pseudowire emulation edge-to-edge (PWE3), hierarchical Quality of Service (H-QoS), next-generation IP/MPLS, and Cisco MPLS FlexLSP for sub-50ms resiliency, fault propagation, connectivity verification, statistical multiplexing, and scalability with RSVP-TE extensions.
- Operational efficiency supported by Evolved Programmable Network Manager (EPN-M) for automated operations, fast provisioning, and proactive assurance; native YANG data modeling for NETCONF and RESTCONF.
- Flexible modular platform with compact form factor for ETSI 300-mm deep cabinets, side-to-side airflow enabling back-to-back mounting in 600-mm cabinets, extended temperature range, and universal air deflectors for front-to-back airflow.
- Fan redundancy ensures high availability; includes 4 dry contact input alarms for monitoring.
The A907-FAN-E fan tray integrates seamlessly into the NCS 4216 system, which features 16 interface module slots, 2 RSP slots, 3 power supply slots, height of 12.22 in. (310.38 mm) or 7 RU, width of 17.44 in. (443 mm), depth of 9.22 in. (234.2 mm), and weight up to 69.32 lb. (31.4 kg) fully loaded. It supports side-to-side airflow (inlet on right, outlet on left from front view) and optional front-to-back with deflectors, operating in load-share mode with AC/DC power supplies.
Advanced Capabilities
The NCS 4200 Series, enhanced by components like the A907-FAN-E, addresses legacy TDM inefficiencies with Cisco’s high-density circuit emulation over protected FlexLSP core, central office modernization for TDM DCS and SONET/SDH ADM migration, and smaller footprint with power/cooling savings. It enables metro Carrier Ethernet aggregation for Layer 2/3 VPNs, IP/MPLS transport, and multicast services. The platform supports Ethernet from 10 Mbps to 100 Gbps (copper/fiber), legacy PDH/SDH/SONET from nxDS0 to OC-192/STM-64, and OTN wrapping.
Designed for challenging environments, it offers extended temperature range (-40 to 65°C for DC/AC in NCS4216), relative humidity 5-95% noncondensing, and compliance with NEBS GR-63-Core for acoustic noise (78 dB at 27°C). The fan tray contributes to chassis MTBF of 6,620,840 hours at 40°C, ensuring reliability in metro networks.
Deployment Flexibility
The A907-FAN-E supports deployment in space-constrained locations with minimum environmental control, outside plant installations in sealed IP65 cabinets per Telecordia GR487, and seismic Zone 4. It facilitates end-to-end management with EPN-M for SDN/NFV/multilayer support, promoting agility amid traffic growth and network convergence.
