The Cisco FLSASR1-FPI is the Flexible Packet Inspection Right-To-Use (RTU) feature license for the Cisco ASR 1000 Series Aggregation Services Routers. This license unlocks advanced traffic classification capabilities through Cisco IOS Flexible Packet Matching (FPM), enabling protocol-agnostic deep packet inspection directly embedded in the Cisco QuantumFlow processor.

Cisco ASR 1000 Series Overview

Cisco ASR 1000 Series routers reshape edge routing with optimized intelligent services delivering outstanding performance and high availability. They set new price/performance benchmarks for enterprise advanced routing, service provider edge, and broadband aggregation. Key benefits include secure WAN aggregation, hosted client premises equipment (CPE) services, and service provider edge services, reducing OpEx and CapEx through unified architecture.

The series includes models: Cisco ASR 1001 router, Cisco ASR 1002 Fixed, Cisco ASR 1002, Cisco ASR 1002-X, Cisco ASR 1004, Cisco ASR 1006, and Cisco ASR 1013. All leverage powerful Cisco QuantumFlow processors for up to 10x performance improvement over previous midrange solutions, with hardware/software redundancy and low-disruption design.

Embedded Services and Performance

ASR 1001 introduces Integrated Daughter Card (IDC) options: base ASR1001, ASR1001-2XOC3POS (2 OC-3 PoS), ASR1001-4XT3 (4 T3), ASR1001-4X1GE (4 GE), ASR1001-8XCHT1E1 (8 T1/E1), ASR1001-HDD (integrated HDD). IDCs non-field-upgradable.

Software Architecture

Cisco IOS XE Software (modular OS based on IOS 12.2SR/15S) supports dual IOS instances for software redundancy on RP1-equipped models. Feature packs: IP Base (non-encrypted/encrypted), Advanced IP Services, Advanced Enterprise Services. Each consolidated package includes 7 subpackages: RPBase, RPControl, RPAccess (non-K9/K9), RPIOS, ESPBase, SIPSPA, SIPBase.

The FLSASR1-FPI license enables Cisco IOS Flexible Packet Matching for deep packet inspection, allowing custom protocol field definitions, signature-based classification beyond NBAR, integration with QoS, firewall, and security policies. Supports all embedded services without additional blades/modules.
